Hand-built in Britain in small batches.
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924, and a dial colour used in the 1940s and 50s.
The Brunswick’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces, with even the solid case back having a gentle sweep. The case’s graceful curves are machined from 316L stainless steel in Hong Kong, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish showcases the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
The Brunswick is manually wound each day using a traditional ‘onion’-shaped winding crown. The crown’s grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
The Brunswick Champagne features a gold dial which reproduces the rich colour of the famous sparkling wine. Finished with layers of real 18ct yellow gold, the dial has a warmth that complements the coolness of the steel case.
Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the watch face features a glass bead blasted finish, giving a frosted appearance with a gentle sparkle. The main surface finish is complemented by concentric circle finishing on the sunken sub-seconds at 6 o’clock.
The numerals are applied to the dial by hand, after being diamond polished to a mirror shine and coated in Black Gold, a special alloy of gold that is black in appearance. This unusual shade allows each numeral to turn from a warm silver to a brown-black with the flick of the wrist. The numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by a horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.
The Brunswick features iconic ‘Fears’-shaped hands expertly made in Germany. Skeletonised and finished in blue using physical vapor deposition, the colour of the hands changes from almost black to electric blue in the light.
The Brunswick is powered by a Swiss made, manual winding ETA 7001 movement. This accurate movement was first designed in the 1970s, and its reliability has ensured its continuing popularity today. Each movement features blued screws and Côtes de Genève striping.
The Brunswick Champagne is fitted with a handmade Pewter Grey strap crafted from Barenia leather with darker grey stitching, lending a contemporary feel to the watch. The premium leather used for this strap takes its name from the village of Barr in Alsace, from where it originates. Traditionally used for saddles, this smooth calfskin leather requires a complex tanning process, known by only a small number of craftsmen. Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. The strap is fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle that is subtly engraved with our ‘Fears’ logo.
The Brunswick is designed to fit all of the straps in our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved discreetly on the case, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
For decades, Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. We are delighted to continue this tradition today.
The Brunswick Champagne is presented in a bespoke wooden box, crafted in Britain from English Ash, which is stained Fears Blue. Lined in genuine cream suede, the watch sits proudly on a special cushion.
Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. We work with one of the UK’s leading 3D laser engravers who can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch. Please contact us here to discuss how we can make your watch extra special.
